Our Leadership
Metanoia Church follows the example of the early church in our leadership paradigm by having a two-fold leadership structure of Elders and Deacons (c.f. Phil 1.1 & 1 Tim 3.1-13).
Elders
Elders–also called “overseers” or “pastors” interchangeably throughout the New Testament (c.f. Acts 20.17, 28; Eph 4.11; Titus 1.5, 7; 1 Pet 5.1-2)–lead the church as the primary spiritual leadership. Metanoia refers to our Elders as “Pastors.” The Biblical responsibilities of Pastors are: shepherd (pastor) the flock (Acts 20.28-20; 1 Pet 5.1-3), lead through example (1 Pet 5.3), teach and exhort through the ministry of the Word of God (1 Tim 3:2; Titus 1.9), refute those who contradict truth (Matt 18:15-18; Acts 20:29-31; Titus 1:9), manage the church of God as a husband/father manages his household (1 Tim 3:5), and pray for the sick (Jas 5:14). The Biblical qualifications for Pastors are found in 1 Tim 3:2-7; Titus 1:6-9; 1 Pet 5:1-4.
Adam Feldman, Lead Pastor
Adam graduated high school in Ellicott City, moved away for college and graduate studies, and moved back to the area in 2005 with his wife, Kimberly, to start Metanoia Church. They and their daughter, Abigail, enjoy family vacations to the mountains. On most days you can find Adam enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation at the Bean Hollow Cafe, where he worked for three-and-a-half years as a barista and the coffee roaster. Adam has served in pastoral ministry since 1999 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communication Arts from Carson-Newman College and a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently working on his Doctor of Ministry in spiritual formation at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Jesse and Katie Florida joined the initial Metanoia Church planting team in the fall of 2006. The Floridas have a daughter, Cadence, and are eagerly await a new addition to their family this Fall. As a percussionist, Jesse serves Metanoia in the music ministry by playing a wide assortment of drums during Worship Gatherings. He is also the drummer for a local band, Romeo Radio. Jesse holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Union University and is pursuing an Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Art joined Metanoia in early 2007 with his wife Sarah. Art serves Metanoia through his music leadership for the Sunday Worship Gathering. He is a passionate musician who, in addition to church music, has been playing in various bands (the most recent of which is Romeo Radio) since he was in high school. Art is a songwriter as well and actively writes new songs for Metanoia’s worship gatherings. He is employed by the Howard County School System as an elementary school ESOL teacher and currently lives in Halethorpe with his wife and daughter, Violet.
Deacons
In the New Testament, Deacons are described as carrying out the ministries and tasks of the church, with a special focus on serving the poor and needy within the church. The “proto” or “pre” Deacon ministry description is found in Acts 6.1-7 where the Apostles were overwhelmed with their responsibilities (see “Elder” above) in addition to meeting the ministerial needs of persons within the church. Deacon leadership–though in its infant stage in Acts 6–was created to allow those leaders responsible for the spiritual oversight of the church through ministry of Word and prayer to continue in their ministry. Thus, the service focus of Deacon leadership compliments the spiritual oversight of Elders. Biblical qualifications for Deacons are found in 1 Tim 3.8-13.
Metanoia has not yet commissioned Deacons into service within the church. Our Elders are prayerfully discerning Deacon leadership at this time.
