Partnership Covenant

The following affirmations are the shared mission, faith and lifestyle commitments of Metanoia Church Covenant Partners. They represent a way of life and a way of mission that extends beyond our church activities into our work places, neighborhoods and homes. The one-year covenant period coincides with Metanoia’s birthday and the beginning of our fiscal year in September. During the month of August, Partners have the opportunity to renew their covenant with one another for another year.

Our Purpose (“Who are we?”)

Metanoia Church is a spiritual community moving toward Jesus Christ.

Affirmation: I affirm that I have made a focused commitment to Jesus Christ and that I have publicly declared my faith in Jesus through baptism by immersion as a believer. (c.f. Matt 3:13- 17; Rom 6:1-5; 1 Cor 15; Col 2:11-12)

Affirmation: I affirm that I have completed the Pathway to Partnership and that Metanoia Church is the local expression of my spiritual family on earth; as such, I commit to actively participate in the Worship Gathering, a Community Group and when possible local and global mission opportunities.

Affirmation: I affirm our elder-pastors in their God-given calling to lead the church in matters of doctrine, ministries of Word and prayer, management of the church and, when appropriate, matters of conduct and church discipline. (Col 3:12; 1 Pet 5:5)

Our Values (“What is important to us?”)

Affirmation: I affirm the following shared values by actively living them out in word and deed within our church fellowship in addition to where I live, work and play.

Truth: We follow Jesus Christ, who is the Truth, and believe the Bible, which is his story revealed to humanity through the Holy Spirit. (Ps 119:11, 105; John 1:1-5, 14; John 14:6; 2 Tim 3:16-17)

Mission: We join God in his mission to redeem all of creation by helping others to know, love and follow Jesus Christ through word and deed. (Matt 28:18-20; Luke 4:16-21; Rom 8.18-25)

Worship: We love and glorify God with our whole-hearted, whole-life response to all who He is and all that He has done. (Exod 20:2-6; Deut 6:4-5; John 4:23-25; Rom 12:1-2)

Relationship: We love one another because we are created in the image of the Father, Son and Spirit. (Ps 133:1; Matt 22:37-40; John 17:20-23; Acts 2:42-47; 1 John 4:7-12)

Passion: We live vigorously, abandoning everything that hinders our part in furthering the Kingdom of God. (John 13:1-5; 1 John 3:16, 4:7-12; Heb 12:1-2)

Authenticity: We live transparently, seeking a consistent inward and outward life in the light of Christ. (John 1:9-14, 3:16-19; Eph 5:1-21)

Our Vision (“What are we doing?”)

Affirmation: I affirm our shared, God-given vision and commit to doing my part to see it accomplished.

We desire to make and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ by blessing others through our acts of love, sacrificial service, and proclamation of the Gospel with the result that…

• …those with whom we worship grow spiritually and our church community grows through salvation.

• …our homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and avenues of recreation increasingly become places of hope, healing, and justice.

• …those to whom we go on mission both globally through our strategic missions effortsand locally in historic Ellicott City and through our Community Groups have their physical and spiritual needs met.

Our Covenant

I covenant with all Metanoia Church Partners in my commitment to the above shared mission, faith and lifestyle affirmations:
